The Falcon Motor Witches

Somewhere in Death Valley...

Vivian drew a large circle in the gritty sand and asked the men to come closer.

“This will get intense, and Ursula will be more like herself once through the portal.”

Ursula heard the concerned murmurs as she turned toward Morgan. “Are you ready, sister?”

Morgan held up a device she swore would help locate Maximus inside the grid and nodded.

A few of the Magus fighters were in a discussion when Ursula raised her arms.” Silence!” she warned as an uncanny breeze whisked through the dry, hot air.

“Above the abyss of Hades,

Submerged in putrid haze.

A sacred entrance

behind Iniquity's gate

Forbidden for centuries

thus by Satans rule

Nary a welcome

but for appalling fools

Come, murky purveyor

I am your Queen of wards

I command thee gatekeeper.

yield to me, this wretched door.”

Ursula repeated the chant until the sand turned black beneath their feet.

“Stand back.” She cried out. Ursula felt the wrath and self-loathing rushing through her veins as the evil accepted her into its berth.

She felt all the sorrow, the fury, the unbalance, and the pain of all who passed this way before.

A fierce cry escaped her throat, and she could feel the trembling of the men around her.

A maelstrom collected the sand and turned it into molten lava. The heat of it singed her lashes and brought a sheen of moisture to her skin.

The hot fluid hardened and formed steps leading down into a dark cave. Ursula felt physically ill and swallowed hard, willing the rise of vomit to settle back in her stomach. She knew she had to quell her panic, for fear was nothing more than the work of the evil lord below.

After a few moments passed, Ursula took a deep, steady breath and felt more in control of her faculties. She stepped toward the entrance.

“High Priestess?” Oya grasped her arm, “Are you sure of this?”
